Manufacturing Pump Investment Castings—Our Process
As a pump casting manufacturer in India, this is how we produce precision pump castings for our OEM and tier-1 supplier clients in India and overseas.
Prototype Development for New Designs
Our team expands on your technical and CAD drawings to create prototypes for your new design. Using Die Tools or 3D printers, our team turns digital drawings into prototypes, enabling faster iteration. Rapid prototyping to finalization takes between two and three weeks.
Designing For Manufacturability (DFM)
Our team works with you to finalize the casting material, simplify design, run simulations, decide tolerances, and more. This reduces tooling costs, lowers incidences of defects and reworks, compresses production timelines, and lowers engineering change orders.
Wax Patterns
We inject liquid wax into the engineered Molds to form a positive impression of the component. On solidification, individual wax patterns are aligned, arranged, and affixed to a sprue to form the wax runner tree.
Shell Building
Operators dip the wax runner tree (or larger patterns individually) into the ceramic hotpot. We use a mixing machine and superior grades of silica and zircon to create a slurry. Every component is subjected to alternate coatings of slurry and stucco—up to eight times or more-to form an optimally thick shell.
Dewaxing and Pre-Baking of Shells
We place the shells in the autoclave, where steam quickly melts the wax without affecting the ceramic shell. This leaves behind a near-perfect inverse impression as a negative space. Additionally, these shells are then quickly transferred to a pre-heated furnace to remove trace wax and moisture and further improve the ceramic shell's strength.
Pouring and Production
Worker-assisted semi-automatic pouring process that ensures molten metal is poured quickly and gently into the ceramic shell. This ensures even distribution, even cooling, and lowers the possibility of hot corners. Once cooled into shape, these components are then processed for the next stage.
Knocking and Fettling
Manual impact and high-power Pneumatic Force to knock out ceramic shells. Components are sawed off from the sprue, have their ceramic cores removed, have the gates and risers ground out, and have their surface cleaned via sand blasting or shotblasting.
Heat Treatment
We place the fettled castings inside furnaces to gradually heat them up to a requisite temperature before air cooling or quenching them, based on the alloy used. This improves physical properties such as surface strength and overall hardness, and enhances corrosion resistance along with the proper microstructure of the grains.
Machining and Inspection
We mark all the critical and mating surfaces, and accordingly turn, mill, ream, and drill them as per requirement. This not only improves tolerances but helps us deliver a dimensionally robust product from one batch to the next. Subsequent non-destructive testing, X-ray and UV analysis, hardness test, and visual inspections provide additional quality assurance.
Packaging and Dispatch
We package the components in freight-worthy packaging, attach all necessary documents, and dispatch them to the port of destination as per the Incoterm agreement.
