Knife gate valve castings for flow-critical operations

At Super Quali Cast, we manufacture investment castings for knife gate valves for flow-critical operations across various industries. Predominantly, these castings are used in industries where viscous fluids and fluids with submerged media are common.

We produce most of our casts using the lost-wax process to ensure precision and lower finishing costs. As a reputed component supplier, we serve industrial valve manufacturers and OEMs in India, North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

Our Manufacturing Process of Knife Gate Valve Casting

Wax Pattern Creation and Investing

Creating wax patterns in-house, attaching them to a runner, and investing the wax pattern tree into a ceramic slurry. This is done up to eight times for hardness and strength.

Dewaxing

Introducing the ceramic shell into an autoclave to melt the wax and produce a precise negative space. Further placing the ceramic cast in a kiln to strengthen it, remove remaining traces of wax, and get the cast ready for pouring.

Material Testing and Controlled Pouring

Testing the molten metal for purity and compliance with standards, issuing an MTC, and then proceeding with gravity pouring.

Knockout and Separating

Separating the casts from the ceramic shell using water jets and vibrations. Sending them to the machinist for isolating each cast from the tree and removing excess material.

Heat Treating

Placing the individual casts in a kiln for heat treatment to improve material strength and surface hardness.

Inspecting

Final round of inspecting of dimensional accuracy, product finish, and product readiness. Checks are done visually, via universal testing machine, and component-specific tests.

Applications of Knife Gate Valve Castings

Knife gate valve castings produced at Super Quali Cast find application in several industries that work with viscous fluids and submerged solid particles, such as:

  • Paper and pulp: Successfully working with difficult submerged solid media such as straw and hemp.
  • Mining: Managing the flow of viscous fluids and dense slurries due to extraction and dirt removal.
  • Waste water treatment: Regulating the flow of slurries with a high degree of suspended organic matter.
  • Chemical and petroleum: Enabling and stopping the flow of corrosive and viscous fluids such as aggressive acids and drilling fluids.
  • Food & Beverage: Regulating the flow of viscous liquids such as syrups, mayonnaise, and batter.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which is the right fit for me—gate valve or knife gate valve?

If your need revolves around regulating the flow of clean fluids, choose a gate valve. However, if the fluids in question are viscous or contain submerged media, a knife gate valve is the better choice. For additional information, check out our gate valve casting product page.

2. Which is the best material for castings for knife gate valves?

The best material for castings for knife gate valves will depend upon your exact needs and standard requirements. However, stainless steel is the most common choice on account of its strength and resistance to corrosion.

3. Do you support custom flange configurations?

Yes, we support custom flange configurations for knife gate valve castings. These will be as per your requirements and meet global standards, such as PED and JIS.

4. Which knife valve designs can you produce?

At Super Quali Cast, we produce investment castings for knife valves in the following designs:

  • Wafer
  • Flanged
  • Bi-directional
  • Push-through (slurry)
  • Knife-edge

Currently, we only produce bonnetless knife gate valve castings.

5. How do you ensure quality assurance for valve castings?

Our valve castings pass multiple checks during and after the production process.

  • Material Test Certificate (MTC): We check the material to be used in production before pouring.
  • Machining: Machinists visually inspect components, remove excess materials, and make geometric corrections if necessary.
  • Universal Testing Machine: We check finished components on a universal testing machine that checks tensile strength, surface hardness, tension, etc.
  • Non-Destructive Testing (NDT): X-ray and Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT) to check for gas pockets and micro-leaks in the components.
